Gililland Middle School’s Art teacher, Ms. Gregory, recently had her 6th grade students create a multimedia project where they created their own book.
6th grade students had to choose an animal and find ten facts about that animal. The students were then required to write eight paragraphs using the ten facts to turn it into a book. Students also drew a picture to go with each paragraph. Students were also able to choose whether the book would be fiction or nonfiction. For the cover of the book, they drew a picture of the animal they chose in it’s natural habitat.
It took one month for each student to complete their book. The 6th grade students had a great and fun time doing this multimedia project. Every student got an A plus!
The art projects were displayed in the Gililland Middle School library for one week. Later, the students were allowed to take their projects home. Mrs. Gregory states that, she had 100% class participation, even from those students who are timid. Everyone really liked the project.
Ms.Gregory mixed her art class project with a lesson in English Language Arts and Science. “Art isn’t just painting, art is in the books you read. Art is everywhere.”, Mrs. Gregory claimed. Mrs. Gregory needed the 6th grade students to know that art can be combined and used with other subjects.
Mrs. Gregory wanted her students to know, “Art isn’t all by itself, art is what we do in our daily life. If you walk on the streets and see advertisements in posters, there is art using colors and design. Art is a part of everything we do in life.”
