This year, 6th graders were provided Chromebooks to help out with their learning experience. Chromebooks will travel through all grades as the years progress so eventually all of Gililland Middle School will have Chromebooks to work on.
Some of the advantages of the Chromebooks are you can use your Chromebook to turn in your assignments. If you miss a day of school you can easily turn in your late assignments or makeup missing work. Teachers can use the applications provided by the Chromebooks to give out assignments. As time goes on, students will be able to use more and more applications to do more projects and work. If students are able to take home their Chromebooks they will be able to do more projects and have better research for projects they have.
Tech Integration Coach, Daron Gonzales shared that computer devices that were provided for the 6th grade team run using Google Chrome. The Chromebooks are provided with apps, which students can use in their classes.
Gililland Middle School Principal, Mrs. Gibbons shared with us that “The kids seem to enjoy it in class. I’ve been to a couple classrooms where they’re doing some games and quizzes on the computers that are making class more engaging and exciting.” Mrs. Gibbons also said “I think the most exciting part about having Chromebooks right now is that we’re going to continue getting them every year.” Many teachers are excited about working on the Chromebooks every year and having them move up every year to the next grade.
6th grader, Natalie O. said that she likes using the Chromebooks since “You’re not wasting trees on paper.” She also commented about how it helps her in many ways and that it is easy for her to use and send in work.
6th grader Fernando, talked about how he was excited when he got his Chromebooks. He said that “If you’re sick you can turn in your work from home”. Students and teachers are excited to keep learning the advantages of the Chromebooks.
