In the year 2015, Chromebooks have entered the learning environment of Gililland Middle School in the Sixth Grade classrooms.
Chromebooks can help students learn and improve valuable skills they can use in the business world, like typing and using applications, such as Google Docs, Google Slides, and Google Sheets. Google Docs is like Microsoft Word, Google Slides is like Microsoft PowerPoint, and Google Sheets is like Microsoft Excel.
Mr. Gonzales, GMS’s Integration Technology Coach ,said, “I think Chromebooks add to the learning experience by bringing access to information you didn’t have access to before and the ability to be a lot more creative where you didn’t have those creation tools before. With Chromebooks, based on research that they are best used when students are allowed to be creative and create something that takes in many skills they have learned from Math, Science, Language Arts and then putting that into one final product. You’re actually using real world skills, real life things like when you’re working a job.”
Chromebooks are used in many beneficial ways, like playing educational games such as Kahoot. Principal, Mrs. Gibbons witnessed this in a classroom. “I was in a classroom yesterday when they came in the class, their Bell Work was actually on their Chromebook. So they just went in, logged into their Chromebook, logged into their teacher’s account and did their Bell Work.” Chromebooks are helping GMS students in many ways.
