RLC was put into action last school year, 2014-2015, in the second semester and will continue this school year, 2015-2016.
RLC stands for “Respect for Learning Classroom.” Students go to the RLC room because they have received three warnings and need to correct their behavior. RLC is a place where students go to reflect on their behavior.
When students arrive in the RLC classroom, the students drop off their backpack, sign in on the sign in sheet, and sit in an assigned seat appointed by the teacher in the room. When students sit down, they may choose to either work on homework, class work, or be quiet.
Students are sent to RLC with a bright yellow laminated paper that is their pass so that way if a teacher sees them in the hallway, they know he/she is going to RLC. If the RLC room is too crowded, administration will look for an alternative place. If a student “ditches” RLC, or doesn’t go, they will have a meeting with Mr. Ruiz or Mrs. Lamer and could get suspended.
Going to RLC more than four times can result in a meeting with a counselor. Another four times results in a parent meeting.
The perks of not going to RLC is that every quarter the school will have prizes or activities. If students have at least one RLC he or she will not attend these activities. Every quarter, RLC’s reset so students can attend next quarter’s events if they don’t go to RLC.
